WER – ICH?

I found this curious little booklet WER – ICH? (who – me?) on a flea market here in Austria. The only texts are the humorous / satirical quotes below each baby portrait. The concept and production is reminiscent of Philippe Halsman’s book The Frenchman, one of the reasons I wanted to post it.

This satirical anti-communist propaganda booklet is from 1953-54, possibly from around the time of the 1953 Austrian parliamentary elections. It was certainly displayed in the window of the Amerika Haus (US Information-Center) Kärntner Strasse 38 in Vienna 1954.

Many thanks to Mag. Marion Krammer from the Institut für Publizistik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft for providing me with some information about this exceptionally rare publication.
