Pierre Le Hors, Firework Studies, 2010
Cover back and front
Pierre Le Hors’ Firework Studies is one of those love-at-first-sight books. Its small, modest format and simple concept is its strength. I’m not at all surprised that it quickly sold out upon publication, and that tracking down a copy is now quite a laborious task. It appears intriguingly anonymous, baring any text except the publisher’s name on the back cover and the copyright information on the last page.
The book is packed from cover to cover with full bleed images of fireworks exploding in the night sky. Taken on a 4th July firework display. A simple idea presented exactly right. Strong contrasts and graphic, organic shapes bursting with energy. This is one of my favourite photobooks.
