Javier Vallhonrat, The Possessed Space, 1992
The Possessed Space by Spanish photographer Javier Vallhonrat is one of my favourite books of nudes. Vallhonrat, widely known for his stunning colour fashion, advertising and portrait photographs, plays with the female form in relation to space and dimension, some of the key elements of photography. Female nudes photographed in black and white, printed, framed and re-photographed, repositioning them within a new space. The photographer plays with our notions of gravity and perspective. The works are bare of any accessories, relying entirely on the model’s pose and the photographer’s imagination.
