Les Yeux de l’ame (The eyes of the soul) is more portfolio than photobook. It was Izis Bidermanas’ (real name Israëlis Bidermanas) first publication, preceding his vastly popular La Guilde du livre book Paris des rêves, published later that year. The portfolio contains 16 poems by French poet Gaston G. Charlet accompanied by 16 photographs by Bidermanas. Each poem is printed in a kind of two-page folder with a loose photograph laid in between. The title of each poem is printed on the front page of each folder. The photographs illustrating the 16 poems are printed on card.
