HEINZ CIBULKA Mein Körper bei Aktionen von Nitsch und Schwarzkogler | Il mio corpo nelle azioni di Nitsch e Schwarzkogler 1965 – 1975 opens with a 3-page introduction by Austrian artist Hermann Nitsch and 6 pages of preface by Heinz Cibulka (in German). This is followed by 10 pages of Italian translation. The main body of the book is divided into two parts. The first is Aktionen von Hermann Nitsch (92 pictures) and the second Aktionen von Rudolf Schwarzkogler (38 pictures). Cibulka posed as a model for Nitsch and Schwarzkogler’s ‘actions’ from the mid 1960s to the mid 1970s. In his introduction Hermann Nitsch praises Cibulka’s ability to devote his body entirely to the artist and, in so doing, become the ideal model and medium for his projects. Nitsch states that all photographs in this book remain uncropped in order to give the maximum amount of visual information of each Aktionen event. The photographs themselves are by Ludwig Hoffenreich, Franziska Cibulka, Bruno Del Monaco, Enzo Sbarra, Roberto Donatelli. The raw black and white aesthetic of these photographs adds to the mysterious, and rather vile, feel of the images. Heinz Cibulka himself became a well-known photographer and writer of lyric and conceptional texts. His works have been shown in many exhibitions and published in several books. This publication is a great document of the disturbingly provocative Wiener Aktionismus (Viennese Actionism) movement from 1960-1970 and beyond.
