Gilbert Garcin, Mister G., 2009
Gilbert Garcin first began his photographic montages at the age of 65. He creates worlds and situations that make us stop, think and smile. He asks questions and stimulates the viewer’s urge to participate in his black and white universe. His montages are reminiscent of the work of František Drtikol or Studio Manassé, yet with a more breathtaking sense of space and dimension. It is refreshing to see Gilbert Garcin’s artisan approach to creating his fantastic images. In an increasingly computer-reliant age, he reminds us that a good idea, regardless of technique, is the foundation of a great image. Mister G. is the artist’s first publication. A wonderful book, as are his other titles.
Gilbert Garcin Mister G. was published by Filigranes êditions in 2009 to accompany his exhibition at the Les filles du Calvaire gallery Paris in October – November 2009. He was 80.
