Frank Horvat, J’aime le Strip-Tease / Eintritt frei Strip-Tease, 1962 / 1963
This book explores the different moral, historical, or even technical angles of the Strip-Tease. Frank Horvat’s camera observes the genre photographically. Horvat photographs movie posters in New York, shop windows. He photographs performances and captures moments backstage at the famous Paris Varieté shows such as the Folies-Bergère, the Crazy Horse or the Moulin-Rouge.
This is not only a photobook – the texts of Patrik Lindenmohr compliment Horvat’s photographs perfectly. The book also contains a conversation (an interview?) with Alain Bernadin founder of the Crazy Horse Varieté in Paris who committed suicide in 1994.
Strip-Tease is just one in the 13-volume series J’aime / Eintritt frei published by Editions Rencontre in Lausanne, and Editions Denoël in Paris, from 1962 to 1963.
Printed in wonderful deep gravure (like all the books in the J’aime / Eintritt frei series).
Strip-Tease is Franks Horvat’s third book. He has lived and worked in Paris since 1955.
