Time Collapsing is my favorite discovery from the 2016 Vienna Photobook Festival. Austrian photographer Christine Miess’s first publication, is a selection of 28 double exposures shot on film. The results are a dance between lines, a symphony of shape and pattern. Land- and cityscapes melt into each other and bewitch with a haunting energy, stimulating the viewer to look deeper and absorb the photographer’s vision. Somehow Moi Ver’s Paris book springs to mind, explaining perhaps my immediate emotional response to this book.
The photographs are presented in two sets, printed full-bleed on pages which fold into each other. It is a playful way of presenting these works that makes total sense. It adds yet another layer to the double exposures by facilitating new combinations of double pages.

I look forward to seeing many more publications by this emerging Austrian artist.
